Obstacles that are in the exit enclosure or stairwell that are at or below 6 ft. 6 in. in height and stick out into the egress path more than 4 in., need to be marked by obstruction tape. This tape needs to be no less than 1 in. wide and must have the required obstacle pattern as noted in NFPA 101 – Life Safety Code 7.2.2.5.5.5.
